Objective

3D printing is rapidly changing the industry. Instead of turning, grinding, milling and casting, additive processes are increasingly being used.

Instead of assembling hundreds of parts for an object, 3D printing can be used to produce functional assemblies in one piece: Cooling channels are directly integrated and can be shaped as desired because they are no longer drilled; more suitable materials such as difficult-to-weld alloys are used. And: With 3D printing, "batch size 1" is possible (each customer gets a unique, individually tailored product) for small series, and this often leads to a lower price.

The only thing the industry lacks in order to use this technology on a widespread basis is skilled personnel, engineers who have mastered all the so-called additive manufacturing processes and can select and implement the right one. With the 3D printing specialization, you will become one of these experts within three years.

Automotive engineering, aerospace, furniture, jewelry, medical technology– Every industrial part benefits from 3D printing.

That's why, after graduation, you will not only have access to an extremely broad and future-proof field of activity; you will also have the opportunity to make your own individual contribution to this technology of the future.

  • In research and development, you will improve 3D printing technologies, making them more efficient and helping to use new materials.
  • In the automotive, aerospace, mechanical engineering and raw materials sectors, you can introduce the new technologies into production and thus help to make these industrial sectors more resource-efficient.
  • In medical technology, you will make a contribution to society by, for example, developing and precisely manufacturing prostheses and orthoses that improve the lives of physically impaired people.
  • Art and design are also increasingly using 3D printing. Furniture, jewelry or perhaps entire houses in the future - the spectrum of your profession is huge.

In addition to a permanent position, the bachelor's degree opens up the possibility of becoming self-employed - or perfecting your knowledge in the Mittweida master's program.

What is commonly known as 3D printing is what science and industry call additive manufacturing. At Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, you will learn about and master all of the technologies involved. This begins with the special requirements for the design of the components and continues with data preparation, handling of materials, and the actual manufacturing process from a wide variety of materials.

Your studies are based on the close connection between applied physics and industrial practice. In your first semesters you will learn the basics of physics and engineering. You use this time as an orientation phase, because in addition to 3D printing, you can also specialize in laser technology and biophotonics.

If you decide to specialize in 3D printing at the end of the third semester, you will use the extensive knowledge foundation you have built up beforehand to subsequently acquire special knowledge in the field of 3D printing processes. You will benefit from the training in your small seminar group. You will receive personal support, and the internships integrated into your studies will usually take place in groups of two or three. This means that you can easily ask the lecturers questions and get advice at any time.
