Objective

Due to the increasing interconnection of various technical systems in production, engineers who have a broad knowledge and also have an overview of other specialist areas are at an advantage. Our professors, who have worked in the industry for many years, impart exactly this knowledge to you. Small group sizes enable you to have direct contact, so that you can ask questions at any time and deepen your knowledge individually.

Thanks to your electrical engineering education with a focus on automation, you will know how cars are electrified and intelligent, how production processes are properly automated, and how electronics, mechanics, and computer science interact in the manufacture of industrial products.

Practical testing prepares you perfectly for your professional life. For example, you will develop an electric racing car with our Formula Student Motorsport team TMM, travel with the team through Europe and use it in international races against other universities.

Career prospects

In addition to typical employers in the electrical sector, electrical engineers are also in demand as never before from vehicle manufacturers, mechanical engineering companies and renowned suppliers. The economy is desperately seeking personnel, and there are already more jobs than native engineers - electromobility is increasing the demand.

As an engineer for electrical engineering and automation, you actively shape the interfaces between man and machine in innovative companies. There you will work as a highly qualified engineer in development, research and production, as an application engineer who accompanies projects from the initial planning to the production of the product as a technical contact person, also abroad, as a project manager who successfully automates interdisciplinary projects thanks to his knowledge of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and computer science.

Structure

The course of your studies is unique in Mittweida. The first of three years serves as an orientation: While you learn engineering and scientific basics, you gain a detailed insight into the special topics of electrical engineering.

It is not until the end of the second semester that you decide on your desired specialization. You use the first year of study to build up your knowledge base and to explore your personal preferences. In this way, you choose what suits you best:

Automation Industry 4.0

Networked electromobility

Mechatronics

All three majors are designed to meet the exact needs of the business community. While other students usually only learn how an e-car is built, here in Mittweida you will also learn how production is designed and what is needed for autonomous driving. Sensors, robotics, microcontrollers, electrical engineering and CAD techniques are part of your studies.
