Objective

Master the technology of the future

Lasers are the universal tool of the 21st century. The high power density and concentration of the laser radiation allows a precise handling of the workpiece with ideal welds for the industrial production – used in the automobile industry and for implants and instruments in medical technologies. The aerospace sector uses laser-irradiated surfaces, which are stain-resistant and cannot freeze. Via laser spectroscopy, mixtures of substances can be characterised in chemical analysis. Even the data transfer of the future could be laser-based and therefore fundamental for faster Internet.

No matter which scope seems to be the most appealing, they all have one thing in common: To use this technology and to develop new applications – skilled engineers are needed. You will gain this knowledge in Mittweida.

Structure

Combine theory and practice on the highest level.

Your study is based on the connection between applied physics and industrial practice. Within the first year, you will learn the physical-technical basics as well as the fundamentals of engineering. At the same time, that year is an orientation phase to determine whether the specialisation Laser Technology is the right one for you or if you would rather specialise in 3D Printing or Biophotonics.

If you choose Laser Technology, you will learn about the structure and functionality of lasers as well as the common laser procedures. On top, you will get an insight into equipment technology and laser safety. Most importantly, you will use all methods in practice. Thanks to our laser institute, the Hochschule Mittweida is one of Germany’s best-equipped universities in the field of laser technology. You can directly make use of the rsearch findings.

Education will mainly take place in your seminar group. Our university stands for personal support which facilitates an uncomplicated and direct contact with your professors. You will execute your integrated practical trainings in a group of two or three to optimally develop your practical competences. Therefore, you will be more than a user: At the end of your studies, you will be able to develop, operate, apply and overhaul the devices and technologies independently.

Laserinstitut Hochschule Mittweida (LHM)

The Laserinstitut Hochschule Mittweida is a central facility at the Hochschule Mittweida. Material processing is the main aspect of research. It provides an extensive overview of different technologies and methods that allow structural modifications by using laser light. Here, you can gain experience in handling laser devices.
