Background

Modern Lasers are high power tools for numerous applications in industry and research. If applied correctly, laser technology may edit materials, transfer data, perform measurements or may be applied in Life Sciences. Developments in different fields, from entertainment technologies to fundamental researches, would hardly be possible. Applying laser radiation is unbelievably varied and thus a key technology in the 21st century, which must be continuously researched and developed based on its enormous potential. Accordingly, there is a wide and a future-proof field of activity for highly qualified professionals in the field of laser technology.

Training Objective

The study objective is to achieve the "Bachelor of Science" (B. Sc.) in Laser Technology. Due to the combination of practically oriented and theoretical training varied knowledge and skills will be gained in the following fields:

  • Scientific Fundamentals (Physics, Mathematics und Chemistry)
  • Technical Optics
  • Generation and Use of Laser Beams
  • Laser Device Technology and Laser Safety
  • Construction and Production Techniques
  • Electrical engineering and Computer Sciences

Structure of the Study

The Laser Technology study (B. Sc.) pools the knowledge and understanding for the application of laser beams based on a broad technical and scientific education. The standard period of study is 6 semester is structured in the following sections:

1st to 3rd Semester

  • Scientific and technical basics, Language

4th to 5th Semester 

  • Deepening of the scientific and technical basics, subject specific education, economic basics 

6th Semester

  • Practical Module and Bachelor Thesis

The curriculum is modularly build up and consists equally of basic and engineering modules as well assubject specific laser technic modules. The lectures and seminars will be mainly conducted in small seminar groups. Furthermore, the practical modules are carried out by small groups of 2 to 4 people, which ensures an individual supervising by Professors, Lecturers throughout the entire studies.

The Laser Institute of the UAS Mittweida (LHM)

The laser institute of the central institutions of the UAS Mittweida, which mainly researches in the field of material processing. It offers an extensive insight into different technologies and methods for structural changes and editing of materials through the application of laser beams and enables you to gain practical knowledge in terms of laser tools.

Admission Requirements

In order to study engineering at the UAS Mittweida one of following requirements must be met:

  • the general higher education entrance qualification,
  • the subject related entrance qualification (for the concerning subject) or
  • the advanced technical college certificate

Opportunity to acquire such a certificate to gain access to the study are illustrate in the part Studying without High School Graduation.
