Objective

3D printing changes the industry rapidly. More and more additive processes replace lathing, grinding, milling and casting.

Instead of putting hundreds of pieces together, it is possible to create functional assemblies in one piece via 3D printing. Cooling channels are directly integrated and optionally malleable – more suitable materials, like difficultly weldable alloys are used in this process. By using 3D printing, it is possible to produce custom-made products – every customer can get a unicum. Small batches can be manufactured more cheaply.

To use these modern technologies, the industry needs professionals – skilled engineers who know how to choose and implement procedures of additive manufacturing. Within three years and your specialisation in 3D Printing, you will become one of those experts.

What is commonly described as 3D printing, is known as additive manufacturing in science and industry. At the Hochschule Mittweida, you will get to learn how to handle these technologies – the requirements for the construction and data preparation, the handling of the materials and the manufactiring process.

Your study is based on the connection between applied physics and industrial practice. Within the first year, you will learn the physical-technical basics as well as the fundamentals of engineering. At the same time, that year is an orientation phase to determine whether the specialisation 3D Printing is the right one for you or if you would rather specialise in Laser Technology or Biophotonics.

If you choose 3D Printing, you will use your broad knowledge basis to acquire special knowledge in 3D printing processes. You will benefit from small seminar groups – your integrated practical trainings will mainly take place in a group of two or three to make sure that you get personal support. Do not hesitate to ask advice from the tutors.
