Objective

Technology that works – because it is intelligently designed.

Digitalisation, automation and artificial intelligence are fundamentally changing our world and placing high demands on responsibly designed systems. In a world dominated by software and electronics, the ability to develop high-performance systems that can be trusted is a key qualification.

Today's devices, machines and infrastructures consist of sensors, electronics, software and embedded computing platforms that must interact reliably. This technology must operate accurately, adapt and respond in a controlled manner even in the event of malfunctions.

This is exactly what you will learn in Computing Meets Engineering – from the design of embedded systems and software development to the application of AI processes. This will enable you to design sophisticated technical solutions that are secure, efficient and future-oriented.

Career Prospects

Develop technology that works, even when things get critical.

Mittweida graduates of Smart and Secure Systems combine sound expertise in software engineering, electronics, computer science and AI with engineering thinking. They analyse technical systems, design intelligent functions and develop solutions that make modern devices, machines and networked infrastructures secure.

Graduates of this programme work in areas such as industrial automation and robotics, energy and transport technology, as well as for Internet of Things applications and AI-supported technical systems, for example as

  • engineers for intelligent and secure technical systems,
  • systems engineers for AI-based and software-intensive functions,
  • development engineers for networked systems,
  • specialists for reliable hardware and software architectures,
  • freelancers in technical consulting, standardisation or certification.

After completing your bachelor's degree, you can enrol in technical master's programmes such as Networked Intelligent Systems in Mittweida.

Course Contents

Understanding, securing and maintaining the stability of systems – from hardware to the cloud!

During your studies at Mittweida University of Applied Sciences, you will learn

  • how to design robust and secure electronic and digital systems,
  • how software, hardware and networks interact in the Internet of Things,
  • how to identify risks, sources of error and attacks at an early stage and prevent them altogether in future, and
  • how systems can regenerate themselves or compensate for failures.

You will combine knowledge from computer science, systems engineering, electrical engineering and IT security and apply it in a practical manner with close links to industry. Instead of solving abstract exercises, you will work on real projects dealing with current problems in industry during your studies. This is ensured by your lecturers, who have many years of experience in industry and will give you a deep insight into their work.

From microcontrollers and control engineering to cyber security, AI and quantum technologies: this degree programme will equip you to use and develop the technologies that our society relies on in your professional life.
